Cave Rescue at Worley's Cave
Sat. Feb 27th 2016

On Saturday, February 27, 2016, at 4:19 pm, Bluff City VFD was dispatched to assist Sullivan County EMS/EMA on a cave rescue at Worley's Cave.  On arrival, we were told that a female had fallen in the cave and had a possible broken ankle.  She was near an area of the cave known as the "Devils Staircase."  Kingsport Life Saving Crew is the designated technical rescue team for Sullivan County, and they had two members already on scene.  Two of our members, along with the two members of KLSC, and one Sullivan County EMA Rescue Tech entered the cave at 5:00 to access and assess the patient.  They reached the patient and one member came out at 5:30 pm to advise Incident Command that they had reached the patient, and were assisting her out.  She was able to walk with assistance.  A second team consisting of three KLSC members entered the cave at 5:36 pm.  The patient was brought out of the cave at 6:12 pm and transported to a local hospital for minor injuries.  The incident was terminated at 6:30 pm.  Thanks to Kingsport Life Saving Crew members for their assistance.
